DINNER | FASHION SHOW COMPETITION | SILENT AUCTION | SHOP FOR A CAUSE
On Sunday, June 23rd at Falcon Vineyard, enjoy a special night night out honoring our widows for International Widows Day. You can view and vote for your favorite runway outfits made from saris donated from Ahaana Organization and enjoy a catered meal along with drinks and a silent auction.
The Brilliance of Hope Gala event will be June 23rd at Falcon Vineyard from 5-9pm. There will be an authentic Indian dinner with wine and dessert. One ticket will include a seat at the ceremony space or the pool level with dinner, two glasses of wine, and dessert which will be at the table. The event will start with appetizers from 5-6pm with shopping and a silent auction. At 6:30pm dinner will be served and following dinner the fashion show will begin along with another opportunity to vote for a winner. To conclude, we will offer one last chance to buy products and silent auction items and announce winners including the Sari Challenge winner! Vote now for the Sari Challenge winner!
We can't wait for everyone to see this special event as we share stories about the widows we serve and about each student designer and model who competes in the Sari Challenge. It will be a special opportunity and an event you don't want to miss! All tickets sold will be able vote and use all 100 points toward their favorite designer/model team!
For those who buy tickets early (April 15th-May 15th), we will be automatically giving you 10 raffle ticket entries for a special prize that will be revealed the day of the event. You don't want to wait!
The Sari Challenge will feature local and national students from Palomar College and Baylor University who are competing to sew the best modern look made all from one sari (5-7 yards of one fabric). These two colleges were specifically chosen because of the Executive Director, Rachel Iacoboni, being a previous student at both colleges. The students’ designs will become available to vote on once we set up their own pages here on our website where you can vote and pick a winner! Each vote will count as a donation for WRP and help the student win the challenge so make sure to check back a few weeks before the show.
Many people have heard of International Women’s Day that is celebrated each year on March 8th, but few people have heard of International Widows Day that is celebrated each year on June 23rd. In 2011, the United Nations decided to make this a global observance to bring awareness to the women who have lost their husbands and have sadly been forgotten. The UN has found that there are “an estimated 258 million widows around the world, and nearly one in ten live in extreme poverty.” (Source: https://www.un.org/en/observances/widows-day)
After losing her husband, a woman has not only lost her spouse but her source of income and support. Unfortunately, around the world, many women do not share the same rights as men and this makes it difficult for them to get basic necessities such as food, shelter, and healthcare.
